Development and production of silicon solar cells

The international Solar Energy Research Center Konstanz e.V., in short ISC Konstanz, studies and develops crystalline silicon solar cells. It cooperates with leading companies and research institutes. The ISC Konstanz was founded by 17 dedicated associates of the University of Constance who are committed to the promotion of eco-friendly technologies. Its aims were on the one hand to advance the further development of solar cells and on the other hand to preserve the familiar atmosphere in the department which has worked up to the present day.

In the course of a tour of the company premises the participants experience firsthand research, development and production of silicon solar cells and can give personal inputs. In this way the whole process from theory to praxis is vividly conveyed. The participants do not only detect the potential of solar cells and solar energy, but they can furthermore acquire information about the everyday benefits of this kind of energy form.

After the tour of the research institution the participants get the possibility to exchange views with experts on the sustainable usage of silicon solar cells. In the course of the discussion the experts will answer questions concerning the new concepts of solar cells and demonstrate their usage by means of the multiple international projects of the ISC Konstanz.

Due to the expert discussion teachers receive practically oriented insights into research, development and production of solar cells. Apart from that valuable stimuli and examples for the practical presentation in class can arise from the exchange of information. Furthermore the teachers can get firsthand information about the commitment of the research institution in national and international educational cooperations.
