Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna - Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway is a company set up to live by the Pomeranian Self-government in 2010 in order to build a new railway line connecting the center of Gdansk wit the airport and Kaszuby. 100% of the shares in PKM SA belongs to the Provincial Government of the Pomerania.

With length of 18 km, Metropolitan Railway Pomeranian is the largest infrastructural project implemented by the Pomeranian Region and the first railway line built by the local government. Along the line of PKM, 8 completely new stops will be built, and 6 of them will be integration hubs. The project is a modern, eco-friendly and above all complementary with new infrastructure projects in Gdansk and the surrounding area.

Thanks to PKM line, the travel time from the center of the Gdańsk Metropolitan Area to its western periphery, including Lech Walesa Airport, will be reduced more than doubled compared with the most popular road transport. In addition, thanks to the combination of the existing transport network, the new line will allow - for the first time since the Second World War - railway connection between Gdańsk and Kaszuby.

PKM line will operate one of the most modern railway vehicles - valued worldwide company PESA Bydgoszcz trains. Their innovation will significantly affect the comfort of travelers. Moreover railcars will be adapted for the disabled. The maximum speed that will achieve these vehicles is 120km/h, and they will run at a frequency of every 15 minutes.
The important fact is that PKM plays a role of an urbanization factor. Along the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway are already arising, or are planned to be developed, the modern housing areas as well as the industrial, business and trade infrastructure.

Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway is a project aroused great interest of the media and the public. Non-standard approach to such a large project is appreciated in many competitions and rankings. Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway was among recognized by the nationwide weekly magazine "POLITYKA" as one of the best investments at the 10th anniversary of Polish access to European Union. PKM has received the award in the category "Internet activities" in the competition “MediaKreator 2014”.
