Mainau GmbH

Spoiled by its mild climate, unique flower island Mainau offers recreation and relaxation to its visitors. Island Mainau was converted by Lennart Bernadotte from a neglected island to a well visited park. The flower island was his life´s work that he operated according to his motto “gardening for the sake of the people”. He early got involved into nature conservation and initiated in 1962 the “green charter of Mainau” which remains valid up to this day and contains twelve claims to keep a healthy way of live for the population.

Objective of the Mainau is to reach an economic and ecological balance. Therefore environmental policy has been a central component of its corporate governance since 1998. By its voluntary participation at EMAS their environmental protection is professionally organized. Mainau GmbH attempts to obtain its energy supply to be ecological as well as economical. Up to 70 percent of the island’s demand can be met by renewable energy sources, with the goal being 100 percent.
